EVENT OVERVIEW

The Spring ’26 Cowgirl Confident Event was held April 29 – May 1. Sessions included cattle handling, reproductive management, herd health, IDEXX diagnostics, calving and dystocia training, health and wellness, and so much more, all taught by industry professionals. The recordings included in this online learning section represent a portion of the sessions shared during.

BULL SELECTION

Reba Palmer, OSU Ottawa County Extension Agricultural/4-H Educator, discussed structural correctness, disposition, fertility considerations, phenotype versus functionality, herd goals and selection factors that can influence long-term performance and management decisions within a breeding program.

HEAT STRESS

EMBRYO TRANSFER CASE STUDY

Dr. Ohmes’ Embryo Transfer Case Study presentation gave registrants a realistic and personal look at the planning, investment, risks, and managment considerations associated with ET programs through a case study based on her own miniature Jersey herd. Using real examples from her operation helped attendees better understand the many moving pieces involved in ET programs, from genetics and reproductive decisions to budgeting and long-term planning.

COWGIRL HEALTH & WELLNESS

Our Cowgirl Health & Wellness sessions this spring gave registrants the opportunity to learn more about taking care of themselves while balancing the demands of farm life, families, careers. livestock and everyday responsibilities. 

Cathy Brown, Oklahoma Miniature Lovable Livestock shared skincare musts, product recommendations and simple habits that can make a difference for women who spend long days outside in the wind, sun, dirt and changing weather conditions that come with ranch life. 

Kelsey Tomlinson, Inject Tulsa, talked to us about hormonal health and wellness, The session encouraged women to pay attention to their energy levels, stress, sleep, overall wellness and changes that can impact everyday life both on and off the farm.
